Fuel Your Body Pt.2

In a nutshell the podcast stated that if you eat the “Fab Four” at every meal and eat until satiety that you would be free from food drama and the extra weight would fall off. The “Fab Four” lifestyle is eating protein, fat, fiber, and greens which naturally balances your blood sugar and elongates the curve so you do not have crashes and peaks like you would eating more processed/high carbs(sugar) foods. To top it off, Kelly had this “magical tool” that she called the “Fab Four” smoothie. She boasted that these would keep you full from 4 to 6 hours. HOLD. THE. PHONE. 4 to 6 hours?!? I was hungry ONE HOUR after I got done eating. If there was one thing that I was going to try and prove wrong, this was going to be it.

After my first smoothie, I was full for 4 straight hours. I felt calm. I felt full, and completely different. After a week I started having more energy. For the first time in years I felt like I was finally starting to feel in control of my hunger and I felt free. And the only thing I had changed was my a smoothie for my breakfast!

I bought Kelly’s book Body Love and once I dove in, it seriously CHANGED. MY. LIFE. The light structure and the science behind the way to eat (and the way carbs are processed in your body) made PERFECT SENSE to me. I had never had anyone explain food like that to me before. What was it that made the difference? The “WHY” behind how different foods affect your body. I was educating myself and making the informed choices about the food I was putting in my mouth. And damn I started feeling GOOD mentally and physically.

From December 2018 to my birthday on July 26 2019 I had lost 20 pounds. I was also a size 12 and am now currently in a size 6.

Yes, I also have a weekly workout routine but I had been doing similar workouts for years, I was not however doing the nutrition. I also cut down how much alcohol I was consuming for multiple reason, but again that is another whole different blog post…

I really do believe that what you eat outweighs how much you exercise (although of course exercise is still important) for weight loss. The thing that changed the game for my nutrition was the mindset of not having to be perfect and overall what I could ADD to make the meal I was eating bless my body. By making sure I had the protein, a good fat, fiber and leafy greens or green vegetables I just felt so much more in control. I also didn’t feel bad about indulging and eating a starchy carb, or having dessert when I wanted if I was eating the “Fab Four” at every meal. It wasn’t about what I “couldn’t” eat, but more about balance. With time, dedication, and intention I truly feel the best I have ever felt. And I owe it partially to Kelly for sharing her knowledge and tools, but I owe most of it to myself for putting in the WORK. I feel healthy, happy, and strong.

Nutrition is SO hard and food is a struggle. “Diets” are a struggle. But I promise you, if you can find a way that works for you (whether if it’s a Fab Four lifestyle or not) to incorporate one or two healthy habits into your life and stick with it for a few weeks, you’ll be amazed at how your body reacts. I’m not saying to overhaul your entire diet (unless this inspires you to!) I’m suggesting maybe to eat a side salad with your traditional Calypso chicken wings the next time you’re at The Bar. Or maybe switch out fries for a sweet potato (because those are GD delicious..). The little decisions that we choose every day make up the bigger picture of our lives. There is nothing wrong with thinking big but starting small and it’s not too late to start now. Do something for yourself and celebrate the victories, no matter how little you may think they are.

What’s one small thing that you could add to your day/meal/life that could help make you feel better?
